Semefab's Annual Awards Recognise STEM Students

Glenrothes semiconductor manufacturer Semefab has acknowledged the exceptional STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) skills of students in Fife, with the award of twelve prizes and two summer placements. The twelve students from fourth and sixth year at Auchmuty, Glenrothes and Glenwood high schools were presented with cash prizes and trophies. And, for two talented sixth year pupils – Jacqueline McMillan (Glenwood) and Craig McGowan (Auchmuty) – they will join Semefab over the summer to gain vital work experience, having won the Dr John Bruce award for excelling in STEM subjects. Semefab’s Managing Director, Allan James, commented: “The Dr John Bruce Memorial Awards, which we launched in 2019, are held dear to all those at Semefab. Each year, we remember Dr John Bruce’s exceptional talent and celebrate his legacy by encouraging and engaging young people to achieve great results in STEM subjects. This year, we have awarded Jacqueline and Craig with the opportunity to come and work with us over the summer, and benefit from on-the-job training and development.” In addition to its annual awards, Semefab has donated five Huion graphics tablets to Auchmuty High School’s maths department. These tablets have creative interactive problem solving scenarios, helping to improve the young students’ understanding of concepts. It is also sponsoring the school to enter the FIRST® LEGO® League Challenge, a global challenge with the aim of inspiring through hands-on STEM learning and encouraging interest in real world themes to develop key employability skills that are crucial for life and future careers.
